Jean-Louis Etienne is a tireless explorer and defender of the planet. Over the past 20 years, he has led numerous missions to the Arctic and Antarctic, scientific and educational expeditions designed to raise awareness on the polar regions and understand the role they play in life and climate, most recently the Polar Pod. 

Polar Pod, an oceanographic platform ship, has been specially designed to drift around Antarctica driven by a circumpolar current, like a satellite. It's a technological & scientific achievement! Not only will it enable the acquisition of long-term data and observations to be transmitted to researchers, oceanographers, climatologists and biologists, it will also be used to run a major international educational project on life, Earth and environmental sciences in “real time”, in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (UICN).

A conference to drive AI solutions for climate change at scale

In collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Startup Inside launched the AI for the Planet initiative in February 2021. In our previous editions, we gathered and highlighted international actors committed to Artificial Intelligence for the Planet to share best practices, celebrate successes and inspire new actions and collaborations in this field.
